CTI (Commission for Technology and Innovation)"Science to market"CTI BiotechCTI Biotech is part of the
CTI Life Sciences domain. CTI is the Innovation Promotion Agency of the Swiss Federal Government. It encourages and subsidizes the transition of science to market.
CTI Biotech has two main goals:
- to promote the fast growing Swiss biotech industry by further optimization of know-how and technology transfer and by targeted and efficient support for the creation of new biotech companies
- to facilitate and optimize the economic exploitation of innovative techniques and products emerging from basic and application-oriented biotech research & development
In order to achieve these goals, CTI offers support by:
- providing the initial push for the advancement of new application fields
- facilitating the transition of projects from SNSF funding (mainly basic research) to CTI funding (translation of results into applications)
- enhancing Swiss efforts in important aspects of modern genomics and post-genomic activities: functional analysis of genomes, bioinformatics, proteomics, metabolomics, posttranslational effects, etc.
- Furthermore: CTI funds so-called “discovery projects”, highly innovative projects with high risk but outstanding business potential
- encouraging national and international networking and formation of dedicated research consortia (involving a larger number of academic and economic partners in order to gain critical mass for highly interdisciplinary and demanding projects (coached by CTI)
- positioning biotech as a sustainable strategy for industrial production (according to OECD propositions)
- improving the collaboration between the conventional universities, the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology and the Universities of Applied Sciences, the latter being new but very attractive and important players in applied biotech R&D
- offering scientific expert support and coaching on a management, technical and financial level for start-ups
- optimizing structural conditions for Swiss Biotech, in collaboration with partner institutions (e.g. State Secretariat for Economic Affairs, Swiss Biotech Association, local biotech clusters)
