Food engineer

They tend to work in the food industry where they have leading positions in product development, production, processing or refining. They may also, however, work in research or teaching.

According to demand, they work with experts in nutritional science, agriculture, biochemistry or with mechanical engineers.

Study

Courses at ETH Zurich

Length: 5 years full-time

Course of studies:
- Basic studies in 1st and 2nd semesters
- Specialist subject in 3rd and 4th semesters
- Semester work and specialisation in a core subject in 7th / 8th semesters
- Dissertation in 9th semester
- Professional practice: for at least 17 weeks and until the end of the final diploma.
- Qualification: federal university diploma as ETH food engineer.

Further training

  • Courses offered by ETH, specialist associations and universities of applied sciences
  • Teaching certificate: Teacher training for vocational and technical schools and universities of applied sciences in the areas of agronomy and food science.
  • Post-graduate studies: human nutrition, development cooperation (NADEL), management science, etc.
  • Doctorate (technology or science)
  • Food chemist: federal diploma
